History

In 2001, the forward thinking constituents at Norcross High School began a Foundation for Excellence to provide financial assistance for the education of future generations of Norcross students. Norcross High School is located 5300 Spalding Drive in Norcross, Georgia in the greater Atlanta metropolitan area. The history of Norcross High School dates back over 100 years in providing formal education for children throughout the Norcross community. Norcross High School currently educates about 3,800 students to become the future leaders of our community and country.

Norcross High School began the Foundation for Excellence with a generous gift from Mr. Paul Duke, developer of Technology Park in Norcross, GA. Since its inception, the Foundation has received donations from hundreds of families to help fund programs and structures, including:
  • Matrix sign that greets all school visitors
  • Contributions to assist in funding the Duke House
  • Media Center updates including books and equipment
  • Teacher grants that impact our students
  • Pavilion located by tennis courts providing shade and water
  • Computer carts containing wireless laptops
  • Trophy case in foyer
  • Teacher scholarships for continuing education
The Norcross High School mission with its students from over 40 different countries is “Achieving Excellence on the Wings of Diversity”. The Foundation is the epitome of the melting pot that is Norcross High School. The parents and other community stakeholders are dedicating their dollars to provide well-educated and well-rounded contributing members of society. We proudly admire the success of our alumni as they attend the best universities in the world, become entrepreneurs of their own corporations, or become world class athletes. We want the future leaders of our country to be as diverse as the community from which they came.

As the Board of Directors of the Norcross High School Foundation for Excellence, we are asking for your support in our philanthropic work. The needs of the school include providing students assistance in the areas of academics, art, and athletics. We urge you to become part of providing for the legacy of the young people in our community.

Our Foundation is a 501 (c) (3)

On March 7, 2016 the NHS Foundation for Excellence hosted a ribbon cutting and unveiling ceremony for the newly renovated NHS Media Center.  The event took place in the school’s Media Center located at 5300 Spadling Drive, Norcross, GA 30092

The Foundation, and its many generous supporters, donated $50,000 towards this new renovation.  “The Foundation selected the Media Center renovation project as the focus for our capital improvement budget to help the high school create a collaborative learning centered space for innovative teaching and learning”, said Elizabeth Gross, NHS Foundation Co-President   In addition to parent Challengers (NHS families who take the challenge to support the Foundation with a donation of $1,000 or more), the City of Norcross, the City of Peachtree Corners, the Gwinnett County Foundation, the Peachtree Corners Business Association, Glenfield Capital, and others have graciously contributed to the Foundation to help fund this much needed renovation at the high school. Mayor Mike Mason (Peachtree Corners), Gwinnett Co. School Board Member, Dr. MaryKay Murphy, and Gwinnett Commissioner, Lynnette Howard were all present at the ribbon cutting.

Some of the new additions in the renovated NHS Media Center include:  moveable furniture & large collaborative works stations for various size learning groups; Sharewalls - writeable wall surfaces; Media –Scape learning centers that accommodate various types of electronic devices and various size study groups; paint & lighting; soft seating for individual and group work.  Lauren Hagey, NHS Media Specialist sums up the renovation in this way, “much like a studio where people create, tinker, share and reflect, we designed our Media Center to create a more fluid, flexible space for formal and informal learning.”  NHS Media Specialist, Christine Pulliam adds, “this renovation will enable our NHS staff and students to connect as a community of learners.”

Welcome to our website.  We are so glad you are here and hope this site provides information that will help you learn more about the important work of the Foundation.  It's exciting to watch the progress of Norcross High as the students benefit from the collaboration of parents, faculty, administrators, and the community. As a charitable organization that raises funds for resources to enable this progress, the Foundation for Excellence has great flexibility to respond to the needs of the children in every facet of their education.  With the continued support of volunteers and donors, the Foundation remains focused on improving the facilities and classrooms, broadening our footprint in the community, and reaching out to more NHS alumnae to include them in the process of creating a legacy for future NHS students.  Thanks to people like you, we have been able to help our students and faculty with things that would not have been possible otherwise.

Please look over the information we have here.  I encourage you to learn more, attend our annual Gala, and consider being a Challenger.  I also invite you to attend one of our monthly board meetings.  We would love to have you attend and answer any questions you might have.

Thank you for helping make Norcross High School a world-class school!

Chris Saunders
President
