Maria Chininis
Known for her genuine love for students, Maria Chininis made a lasting impression on hundreds of students and their families during her 8 years at Norcross High School, where she served as an Assistant Principal giving focus to the International Baccalaureate program and the Language Arts department. Maria’s joy permeated everything she did. Whether she was serving on parking lot duty or solidifying a student graduation completion plan, Maria brought enthusiasm and encouragement for students to strive for success. Working under the leadership of principals Mary Anne Charron, Dr. Jonathan Patterson and Will Bishop, she learned numerous strategies to challenge students to pursue academic excellence. Opening doors for children and helping them navigate a future was truly her heart’s desire.   Maria received her college degree in Early Childhood Education and taught K-4th grade for 7 years. She received her Masters in Administration and taught in both Dekalb and Gwinnett County Schools, before becoming an Assistant Principal. She received her Specialist degree in School Administration and served as Assistant Principal at Berkeley Lake Elementary for 12 years, prior to coming to Norcross. Maria currently works as the Education Coordinator for the Concussion Institute at Gwinnett Medical Center. Sought out for this role to work directly with the schools to recommend academic accommodations for students recovering from a concussion, Maria’s unique ability to engage with others, provide support, education and encouragement, equips her well for this challenging new role.
